Bournemouth is one of the South’s most popular tourist destinations with seven miles of magnificent beaches and a vibrant cosmopolitan town, its perfect for a weekend break.

Here at the Ramada Encore we know how fantastic Bournemouth and Dorset are for a romantic getaway, with a wide variety of nearby attractions and activities which are sure to bring you closer together. For this reason we have written this article just to give you some ideas for your next trip. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing break or an action packed adventure, the Dorset coast certainly won’t disappoint!

Perfect for a romantic walk

If you’re after an activity that will show you the most beautiful sights Dorset and Bournemouth have to offer, a coastal walk is an absolute must. With hundreds of tried and trusted routes along Bournemouth’s cliffs and beaches, the Purbecks, Weymouth and Durdledoor (pictured below). The nearby Jurassic coast has some staggering view points which will be a truly unforgettable for you and your partner to enjoy.

If it’s a forest walk, cycle or event Segway adventure you’re seeking then you can take a short trip to Moors Valley country park which is also home to Go Ape, where you can try zip lining or brave the high wires! The other option is Hampshire’s New Forest National park which is less than a 30 minutes drive from the Ramada Hotel.

Dining out in Bournemouth

Whether you’re looking for fine dining with sea views, or a quick bite to eat before you head out to a local cocktail bar, Bournemouth has the answer. With hundreds of restaurants offering cuisine from all over the world there will be something to suit all tastes.

The Ramada is perfectly situated to give you plenty of choice, with hundreds of eateries within walking distance. Coastline Adventures

For those couples looking to get their hearts racing there are a number of water sports you can try locally including surfing, sea kayaking, slack lining, paddle boarding, coasteering and bodyboarding. You can also try your hand at jet skiing or windsurfing if you are looking for something a bit more adventurous. Moving in land, Snowtrax is also our local dry ski slope which is just 20 minutes from the hotel by car, so remember to bring your coat!

Express your creative side

If you or your partner have a creative side, or don’t for that matter, now is the time to give it a try.  All Fired Up is a Paint-Your-Own Ceramics Studio situated in the heart of Bournemouth, just a short walk from the Ramada Encore Hotel. The Poole Pottery store at Poole Quay also offers a fun and relaxing environment for couples of all ages to come and express their creativity by designing some memorable gifts for each other.

At one with the Animals

Dorset and the nearby New Forest are home to a diverse range of magnificent animals from the Donkeys and Pigs of the forest, to the Sharks and Stingrays of the Oceans!

If you’re looking for something a bit different why not spend a day in the New Forest on horseback by visiting the Burley Manor riding stables?

Dorset is also the home of Monkey World which is a world renowned, rescue and rehabilitation centre for primates. If it’s the aquatic creatures that you’re partner loves then a short walk from the hotel you will find the Bournemouth sea life centre which is now home to over 150 species of fish, reptiles, invertebrates, otters and now penguins!

Explore Dorset From the Water

If you choose to set off from the Ramada Bournemouth there are a number of coastal towns which can be explored by boat or by cruise. If you head east you have Christchurch, Mudeford Spit or the Solent, with numerous harbours and inlays to explore.  The alternative is to head west towards Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island or Sandbanks beach which is famous for is sweeping gold beaches.

Slighlty further West there is a number unforgettable sights along the nearby Jurassic coast, including Weymouth’s Olympic sailing venue, Lulworth Cove and Old Harry Rocks. Each of these make a fantastic day trip from Bournemouth with plenty of nearby restaurants and country pubs to choose from at each spot.

There are full day cruises or shorter excursions available so we recommend contacting a local provider to plan your trip in advance, particularly if you plan to visit during the busy summer months.

Enjoy the sighs from above

There really is no grander way to say to show someone you care than to whisk them off on a plane to enjoy the views of Dorset from above. If you don’t have your own plane then fear not, you can buy a flight experience at Compton Abbas Airfield. The base is situated at 800ft above sea level, so also offers some spectacular views above an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A little closer to home in the town centre we also have the Bournemouth hot air balloon which offers 150ft bird’s eye view of the town and local landmarks including the bay, Purbeck Hills and the Isle of Wight.

The rest is history…

If you and your loved one are partial to a bit of local history then the Dorset coast will have you both in your element. There are an almost endless list of historic sights and buildings including Kingston Lacy in Wimborne, Old Wardour Castle and Corfe Castle near Swanage. Situated just over 1 hour from the hotel, Stone Henge is also a popular day trip due to its world-class exhibition and visitor centre.
